Just recently I decided to trade my old alpine 12″ subs for an xbox 360 on craigslist. The trade was more in his favor due to the price of the subs compared to the $100 xbox. So we made the trade in the Walmart parking lot as he assured me the system was in peak condition with no problem. I got his phone number as my little bro got his license plate numbers in case there were any problems.

Once I got the xbox 360 back to my house, I immediately plugged it in. Right away I got 2 red lights flashing before me. I immediately jumped to the conclusion that I got ripped off!! If you know much about the xbox 360, you know that 2 red lights means an overheating problem. This is at least a little bit better than having the rings of death where nothing could help. I searched youtube.com for every solution to solve my overheating problem. I found a few interesting videos that require you to wrap the xbox 360 in a damp towel for a period of time and this will fix the problem. People swore by this method that it would work but just found it to be silly and a waist of time. Other videos from youtube.com explained ways to take your box apart to do a deep clean. Again, this method seemed to strenuous and didn’t wanna waist hours of my time to do this. I usually am the type to jump right in and take things apart and get to the root of the problem, but if I wanted to go through the trouble I figure I might as well just buy a new one.

After struggling with overheating problems in the middle of Gears of War 2, I went and bought the extra fans that can be installed to the back of the Xbox 360 from Walmart for $19.99. After installing the extra fans with ease by snapping it on to the back of the unit, Overheating drastically decreased although it will overheat sometimes. The fans are actually well worth the twenty bucks. They come with heat sensors to let the fans know when to kick in when the xbox 360 is too hot. Kind of high tech right!?

So, if you having overheating problems with the 2 red blinking lights on the front of your Xbox 360, I would recommend the attachable fans first before tearing things apart in your living room creating moments of confusion and frustration.
